Third Party Logistics Provider Finds New Efficiencies in Turtle Wax Warehouse Operation
Is it time to take a closer look at your returns processing? For Turtle Wax the answer was clear, don't let returns sit around gathering dust. Make them more productive.
(Boonton, NJ, June 28, 2010) When Turtle Wax switched to a new 3PL it saw improvements in space utilization, worker productivity, energy efficiency, and even returns processing.
Third-party logistics provider LeSaint Logistics took over the supply chain operations of Turtle Wax last year, and it immediately squeezed efficiencies out of the DC, says Dino Moler, LeSaint's executive vice president of client solutions.
In the June issue of industry newsletter, Distribution Center Management, Moler notes that one area for improvement was the often neglected returns processing.
Turtle Wax previously held on to returns until it accumulated a full case of the same item. LeSaint decided that didn't make sense. To speed reselling, it began fulfilling Internet orders with returns that were in good condition.
"Instead of them sitting, making no revenue and possibly reaching expiration, we send them back out," Moler says.
